Trapping Lesson 1- Black vs Rich Black

In the first lesson for trapping in illustrator, I learned the difference between black vs rich black. When printing, it’s important to know this difference because if the regular black is printed on top of another color, it may appear as a different color than black on a white background.

In this image, the top left is the letter A in regular black. The bottom right is in rich black.

Rich black is when your CMYK settings is set to 0% on all colors except for ‘K’ which should be 100%.

To be able to see this difference like the image shows, pull up the ‘attributes’ tab in Window. Then select the ‘overprint fill’ box.

FInally, go to View and select ‘Overprint Review.’

You should be able to see the slight difference between the two letters!
